Initial Assessments

Initial Assessments

Completing an Assessment is an important first step in identifying the needs of the child from which practical advice can be provided to the parents in the form of a written report, which enables you to go home and get to work on goals straight away.

It is important to meet you initially, to collect a detailed history of your child’s development and discuss your concerns in detail.

From here an assessment will be completed which may look at some or all of the following areas:

  • Your child’s understanding of language
  • Your child’s spoken language
  • The sounds your child is using in their talking
  • How your child uses their language skills to communicate with others

This process often involves a combination of standardised assessments, informal assessments and observation. On completion of the assessment a written report will be completed, detailing the findings and recommendations.

Assessments can take place in your child’s home, at clinic or in school.

Initial assessments usually last between 60 and 90 minutes and prices start from £130.
